Our Story

Our Aims and Objectives

"I've been involved with Caxton House for over 20 years, initially bringing my children to their kids club, then as a trustee and finally as a worker. It's been amazing journey. "
—Sue - Bookkeeper.

Caxton House Community Centre is a vibrant community hub based near Archway in the London Borough of Islington. We host a number of weekly activities, including: Under 5s Drop In & Toy Library, free IT Drop-In sessions, Family Zumba, Zumba, Gentle Exercise class, Free Legal Advice sessions, Fun & Fitness, Short Mat Bowls and the Hills Handicraft Club. We also provide space for a variety of organisations and sessions, such as Experience Archery, Weight Watchers, Short Mat Bowls, GKR Karate, Wing Chun Martial Arts, RC Annie Stage and Screen Combat, Anand Mandal Asian Elderly Group and the local MP surgeries and Ward Councillors Surgeries. Look at our Projects page and Weekly Activities for more information.

Organisations based at the centre include: London Capital Credit Union, Mobile Repair Service, Kurdish and Middle Eastern Women's Organisation, Octopus Community Network, Jobs in Mind, Choices C.I.C, Another Way, English in the Community, The Hills Community Trust and the Elthorne Pride (Big Local Initiative).

We are committed to the goals of community development, in which the people of the neighbourhood are responsibly involved in solving problems, rather than as recipients of services provided by others.

We are concerned with the fulfilment of individuals, the growth of self-confidence and the acceptance of responsibility.

Caxton House will be autonomous, and have a variety of projects that cross-fertilise each other and involve all age groups of the community.

We shall be active in working and co-ordinating with other groups and agencies in the area. We expect to be involved in looking ahead in planning to meet the needs of the people.

We are determined to avoid concentrating on symptoms to the exclusion of causes.
